Brighton News Story – 4 August, 1806: Prince attends Lewes races

The Prince left us this evening for Town, and returned about five o’clock, on Thursday morning, to be present at Lewes races.  The Race-Ball at the castle was honoured with the presence of the Prince and upwards of 300 visitors, among whom were many of the first rank, and the most exquisite beauty in the kingdom.  His Royal Highness was in excellent spirits and his consescneding affability and politeness gave a zest to the pleasures of the evening.
